Remington Model 25 pump
« on: November 08, 2004, 02:56:48 AM »
I just picked up a Model 25 in 25-20 that needs a set of stocks. I've already checked Gunparts, etc. with no luck. Anybody know of a good source for older Remington replacement stocks? Thanks.

I have one of those but the receiver was drilled for a peep sight. That wood is going to be hard to find but could be specially made from an original by a good craftsman. Is your chamber throat pitted? Mine looks like the surface of the moon but it's still a decent shooter. I wish the thing was original....I love shooting cast bullet loads out of it. Good luck with the wood.

Mine is in pretty sorry shape: terrible home-made stocks, four holes in the side of the receiver non-original sights, worn blue on barrel and buttplate, etc. For the most part it's salvagable, but I don't plan to put a lot of money into it since it will never be a collector piece. I found a slab of walnut in my garage that might work, it's just a job to go from that to a finished stock and I've still got other gun projects waiting. As for the barrel, mine looks pretty good except for some stubborn fouling/rust? in the first 8-10 inches of the rifling. Still, for what I've got into it, I'm not complaining too much. I just wish it was a 32-20

That stubborn fouling is pitting from corrosive primers. Mine has some but not that much. The pits are pretty bad but like i said, it shoots great. Mine sat in my Father's gun cabinet for almost 30 years without a round going through it and it was used very little before that. I just wish it hadn't been drilled. The finish is around 80 - 85%.

Yesterday, I picked up a Weaver G4 in an N5 side mount that as fate would have it, fits my Model 25 perfectly! Now the holes don't make me feel so bad. Still working on the stock.
