Hornady 405 Win. Bullets?
« on: November 15, 2004, 04:30:59 PM »
Has anybody done any testing on either of the .411, 300 grain FP or SPs made for the 405 Win? Paper or Flesh?

I shot two deer today with the SPs one broadside one quartering. The broadside exit wound is the size of a fifty cent pc. The quartering shot, in the neck, out the rib cage, showed no expansion. The deer droped at the shot, so..................!!

The SPs shoot great, the FPs need some tuning, 4" at 100yds.

I've shot two deer with the FP's from my '95 and have not recovered any of them. One deer was a one shot kill to the neck. Deer dropped in its tracks. Second deer was shot to the rib cage a little far back as it was running. Deer was anchored on the spot but still showing signs of life so a second shot was made to the neck resulting in an instant cease of life function. The three bullet impacts all had identical performance to what you describe. Recently bought a box of the SP's and haven't shot anything with them yet. Boddington in Guns and Ammo seems to think the SP's will be better for penetration from his hunting in New Zealand.
