...Howdy folks,,,does anyone know the barrel twist rate used by H&R
in their Ultra Varmint Rifle in .223cal...?

It's 1-12". You can find all kinds of info in the FAQ sticky in the NEF/H&R Centerfire forum above.

The faster 1-10" would be a better choice if you want to shoot most bullets of 55gr or heavier, particularily those over 55gr.... Sierra has a bullet that is specifically designed for the 1-12" twist, but in the long run, 1-10" is probably more versatile. If you just want a small varmint gun, those bullets in the 40-50gr weights should be plenty and shoot extremely well in the 1-12". I can't speak for the rossi, never owned one.

Come on over and talk to us in the H&R/NEF group...there are very many good folks that have allot of the info that you need...as Quick has done..

Anyway...I am a .223 Handi Owner...And I love mine...IN fact I have 2 Handis and one Shotgun...All three Barrels fit my .223 frame, and it sure is nice to be able to change barrels in about less than a min...

The NEF .223 are microgroved at 1:12....as stated before...they like 40-55 grain bullits....My Handi likes 50g Btips from UltraMax....They are about 17 buck per 50 if you can find them...in contrast Wally World sells 50 55G FMJ for about 9 bucks and 40 45G JHP for about 12.50 bucks...Both are Winchester USA White Box....in my Handi both are good..the 45G are a bit better at about 1 inch, the 55 at 1 1/4...but the UltraMax are at an easy 3/4 - 7/8 inch...and I still have less than 400 rounds through mind total...

As I do not know any Rossi users, I can not speek for their Quality or shooting ability

My Dad has the Rossi (also sold as BrazTech) in .223--great little shooter, even with the cheap Winchester and Wolf ammo.  He's shot about a half dozen groundhogs with it over the summer.
