Got my eyes on a Kimber Eclipse Target II - Good price?
« on: September 11, 2004, 05:22:22 PM »
I just found this .45 in a local shop selling for $870.00.  It's under 2 years old (the original sales receipt is in the box), comes with the original case, 2 mag's, book, cable lock & manual.  All are in like-new condition.

I broke it down and it was as clean inside as it is on the outside.  The shop is including a 90-day warranty.

I've been looking for some other used ones to get a sanity check on this price but can't find any.  Think $870 is a good price for this pristine Kimber?

Thanks !!

Dino32 H&R,
I am looking to buy a new Kimber Eclipse II Target...The best price I've found is $1054.00.  Sounds like you got a tough call.  If you look at used Kimber prices...they all seem to hold a high value.  I have a Stainless II Target in 10 MM with a laser grip and if I can hold the dot on something, I'll hit it! It's awsome. That's why I want another Kimber.  BTW, I'm just east of Toledo---how bout you?   Jimbo

If I can totally distact you, have you looked at any of the new Colts?  They are a great psitol for the price!  I bought a S&W SW1911 at the end of last year to use in USPSA Limited 10 competition.  Great pistol! Then , I found a Colt 1991 NRM Government model this summer and had to have it.  No frills, basic blue government model.  The Colt is unbelievable!  It outshoots the SW1911 with ease and cost nearly $200 less.  I have used the Colt in competition once now and was very impressed.  I'm not the fastest shooter on the line, but my hits were about 85%-90% "A" zone.

I have talked with a lot of guys looking to get into my sport, and they all seem hellbent to buy 1911's with all the bells and whistles.  The Colt is stock except for an arched S&A mag guide and a little filing of the stock grip safety and hammer to reduce the hammer bite potential (got me once in the competition).  A lot of guys swear by adjustable rear sights.  In 14 years of competition, I have yet to own a 1911 with other than fixed sights.

Everyone...take your shots at my comments.  I started shooting 1911's and immediately started swapping parts and adding beavertails.  After a long break from the action, I came back with a new philosophy.

This tread gets a post a month, oh well here is my two cents.  Check out the Kimber Team Match II.  I have shot both gun and find the Team Match II a better buy for the money.

Go with a used Kimber

If you plan to shoot it, I would definitely go with a used Kimber rather than a new one.  The price you mention is a fair value, but probably not a once in a lifetime deal.   I agree that the Team Match is probably a better bet, especially if you can find a used one.  You just have to replace those ugly grips.   I have two stainless gold matches, and they both shoot one inch groups at 25 yards with 200 grain SWC and 4.0 Grains of Bullseye.  I bought one new, and one used.  now they are both used.......A lot.
