forearm removal on glenfield 30A

anyone shed some light on how to remove  the forarm on a older glenfield 30A it has the little cap like at the end of the forarm , after i take the screws loose its  still tight  any help here?

Shane, if the Glenfield has a bracket between the barrel and the magazine tube, where the screws that hold the endcap on screw into, it is dovetailed and will have to be knocked out. At least that's how it looks on my version. There is also a screw in the lower front of the receiver that may be part of holding the forend on at the receiver end.

I didn't take mine apart, just looked at it to see if I could see anything after reading your post.

Leaving the foreend cap screws out, Take the screw out of the end of the mag tube on the bottom by the muzzle.(Be careful as the mag spring will try & shoot the mag cap out) The magazine & forend should both slide forward & come off together. You should now be able to slip the tube out of the foreend. It might take some persuasion to get the foreend free of the reciever as its sometimes a tight fit.
The screw at the bottom front of the reciever holds the trigger plate in, dont take this one out, unless you want to but it wont free the foreend.  :grin:

I got a Glenfield with scope from Sears or Monkey Wards over 30 years ago and shot it to pieces over the years on Ground Squirrels ,sent it for repairs and it was about 60 dollars,when I got it back I gave it to my Son In Law and got the "new" 10/22.

I could be wrong but I believe the gun he's talkin about is an economy 336.
Or maybe thats what you used for squirrel hunting.  :grin:  I suppose with good shot placement you might not have to clean a squirrel shot with a 30/30. I'm a bad shot tho, every squirrel I'v ever shot wth a 30/30 just kinda turned into gray fuzzy mush.

you are right Dude,it was maybe a Glenfield 60 something and we did not eat the squirrels as they were infested,wrecked the runway.

Ah, the venerable model 60. I had one once, my wife bought it for me. Never could get mine to cycle right tho it was a tack driver when it decided to go bang. Traded that one off (Dont tell the wife tho    ) & got a 10/22. Aint as acurate but it always works. Planing on gettng a bull barrel for it someday but that day hasn't got here yet.

thanks guys , yes its the 336 econo version , tryin to refinish it for my sons CHRISTmas , i got it apart  yes yu do have to remove  the whole mag tubeand YES  the mag spring comes out very easy and its long hahhaha thanks agian guys

You might want to call Marlin & see if you can get a walnut stock set.  have n the past but ferget what it costs. I believe its under $100. It wll fit right in if they wll sell it to you. I say "if" because I'v heard they want serial#'s now & may not want to sell one not made for your gun but this info may be wrong as it dont make sense to me. I think Numrich has them as well. Just be sure it is for a gun with a foreend cap as most have barrel bands & wont fit.

I'v refinshed a few Marlins & the fnish comes off nicely with furniture finish remover. Then sand with like 400 grit till its smooth & hit with steel wool a little. Then I'v used Tung oil & Tru oil both wth good results.  thnk Tru oil is more durable but Tung oil sure gives a nice finish.

thanks for the info , yeah i got her all stripped and put a coat of red mahogany stain on it first , then i ll start with the tru oil , figure 4-6coats for starters  got it hangin by the heater  so it will bake right in
