Cheap 10/22??
« on: November 08, 2004, 08:15:23 PM »
Is there such a thing as a cheap Ruger 10/22?
I've been looking for a used up POS 10/22 to build into a nice 17hm2.

Well the biggest POS I found was in an Auction at 60%wood 40%blueing.
The 10/22 looked like a truck gun from hell. It still brought $125.00.
Buy the time you add shipping and transfer fee, I'm almost at the cost of a new one down at Wal Mart.

Does anyone sell POS 10/22 for a reasonable price??
Even my local pawn shops are high dollar (they always are for some reason)

Please don’t say that there worth every penny they might be.
But it wasn’t that long ago I could buy one $60 NIB but still.
I can't see a used rifle bring with in $20 of NIB.
If you add just shipping you could have bought a NIB locally.

I'm trying to get a rifle and basically do a complete build up.
Trigger group, bolt squared, custom stock, custom barrel, and bolt handle.
I just don’t want to buy a NIB and tear it down.
Trying to save money on the carcass you might say.

I would settle for a plugged barrel and broken stock for the right price, if the rest of the rifle is there.

Any thoughts about my 10/22 short comings?

Sorry for ranting just discouraged.

Thanks for listening Warf

The 10/22 is popular for the exact reason you want one for.  It doesn't matter what condition it is in, as long as the action is good you can upgrade and have a top shelf rifle.  I've bought used 10/22's from my local gun shop for $75, but that's a rarity.  Usually they're around $125 used.  Mine was pretty crappy looking, but still shot 1" groups at 50 yards without any modifications, so I left it alone.

I purchased two pre-warning 10/22's for $100 a piece from the local Gander Mountain. The one was a deluxe with checkering and both were walnut and scoped in excelent shape. It all depends on being at the right place at the right time. I paid as high as $150 for a laminated stock 10/22 but to me, it was worth it.
