Newbie/Rookie needs some help with the basics.
« on: November 11, 2004, 07:31:17 AM »
Hi all,

I've been posting over in the NEF/H&R Shotgun forum because I'm looking to start deer hunting next season on the family farm in southern Minnesota.  I like how accurate slug guns have become, but I can't stand the idea of spending $2.00 or more every time I pull the trigger.  So I thought I'd give a look into muzzloading since the season is longer and I've read about how modern muzzloaders a very powerful and accurate.  The problem is I really know absolutely nothing about them.  I don't know how to use them, what's involved in buying, loading, cleaning them etc.  Where can I go for some info on muzzloading basics?  I guess I'd only be interested in that information as well if my assumption that shooting blackpower is much cheaper than shooting the slug guns I've been reading about.  How much coud I expect to spend to get a decent setup for minnesota white tail?  What are the costs involved?  I'll be hunting from inside a blind, so weather won't be an issue.  Thanks for any help you can give me or articles you can point me to.

Another good thing to do is, find someone else that is into muzzleloading and pick there brain. Have them show you the ropes. It is not as hard as you might think it is. Good luck and Welcome to the board.  :D
