The o-ing trick for Synthetic forearms (KINDA)

I feel that I have found something better than a O-ring to space the barrel away from the SYNTHETIC forearms. I have found that the O-ring was not working for me on the synthetics because the hole on the inside is round and just big enough for the barrel lug to fit inside so installing a o-ring on the lug itself did no good. The screws that you use to put tin down on roofs and on the side of building. Well the screw has a metal washer and a rubber gasket or flat o-ring. Remove the flat rubber o-ring from the metal washer and put down inside of the forearm hole. Then start the forearm screw thru the oring, next put on forearm and start tightening screw. Worked real good for me. Plus, when you loosen screw to take off forearm the screw stays in the forearm so you do not have to hunt for it when you drop it. Try it and see what you think.

I spent at least 10 minutes last night looking for that bleeping screw after I took the forend off and dropped the screw... I'm off to get me some of those nails!

An alternative, but the same idea, is to use a small grommet by cutting the grommet in the groove that would sandwich the metal so you end up with 2 small rubber washers. There is a size that just fits in the forend hole and fits snug on the screw. I didn't have any of the washer type roofing nails and neither did the hardware store, so I used half the grommet. It works! Thanks, Stan!

I don't think Stan was talking about nails.  It is actually the hex head screws that have a metal washer and neoprene washer.   I have some of both, but haven't taken time to measure the difference between the two.  I do know the screws placed in the valleys of corrugated metal are much better than lead head or neoprene nails in the ridges!  :grin:
