Filled my last tag last weekend. The 25 cal 100gr Barnes TSX bullet did a very good job at 175 yrds. Never recovered the bullet in and out leaving a 2' exit hole. I used my 25-06 Ruger #1 again.

Breaking both the heavy leg bones and the brisket, not a good shot but a good test for the bullet. There be no more testing with this bullet, I am very happy with it. I was lucky that both front legs were in line with the shot.

As you can imagine with both front legs gone an heavy internal bleeding the deer never went anywhere. I ruined some meat but not too much.

We already consumed the liver and the tenderloins, nummy,nummy.
Where I hunt the deer they eat on alphalfa and corn and other gooodies, with the resultant excellent venison.

Congrats Fred! Dang almost got me droolin thinking about backstraps!!  Don't worry about the shot not being perfect and a little meat damage when ya got meat in the freezer!

Yes my idea of hunting is to get a good piece of meat in the freezer.
I had a choice of two bucks one was really big with a nice set of antlers.

But I choose the smaller one instead, better eating most of the time?

How many deer you allowed in Saskatchewan anyway?

Rifle season opened in VA on Saturday.  Where i was hunting it sounded like fighting in Iraq!!!  :eek:   i bet i heard 200 shots in the first 4 hours of the season.  My hunting spot sits at the top of a large valley, about 100 square miles worth of land area.  I guess that's not too bad a ratio, 2 shots for every square mile.

Starting calling and ended up with 2 hunters under my tree stand.  Its ashame, muzzleloader season in the same stand i saw lots of deer and no hunters...  hopefully last half of rifle will be better and less pressure.

That's what i miss about Canada, lots of space and few hunters, plus enormous bucks!!!

Congrats on the buck! You northerners have some really nice deer! Down here in the sunny south, we get a few that go over 200 lbs, but not many.
Most run 120-160.

However, we do have a very liberal season:

Archery-1 month
Blackpowder-3 days
Thanksgiving-4 days
General Gun- 2 months
Special Primitive Weapons-2 wks.

We start hunting archery in October and finish with the Special Primitive Weapons in February.

We're just getting started!

Borg I hunt in Alberta that is where I live. We have draws here and you must apply in June. There are also special draws in some zones for archery and primitive weapons 45 cal or bigger.

General you are allowed three deer, two does one of each Wt and Mule deer are on draws and WT buck on a gerneral licence. Mule Deer bucks in my zones are on draw only. All Antelopes are on special draws with three days allocated to get your doe and six days for a Pronghorn buck.  Elk and Moose are on draws but up north you can hunt Moose with General moose tag. Sheep, goat and Grizzlies are on draws only and very few at that.

The game regulations in Alberta are rather complicated, and you must study them each year.

Since the shot was quite low I mostly ruined bones, besides they make tough eating :lol:

I did pretty good this year with three deer and two Antelopes my friend did no want his, so I gladly toke it off his hands. It is my believe that Antelope is the best tasting game meat. But not if they eat nothing but sage or if he is a big trophy buck he can tough and rang. So I only apply for the does.
