Just installed a WRGS 336 on my 1895 cowboy. It just plan shoots to high
about 6-7 inches high at 100 yd.s the assembly that hold the peep and slides on an inclined ramp is at the end of it's adjustment. I'm thinking of
taking it to the machine shop and milleing it down. Anyone know how much? Jackfish?

Hey found the answer, on another site there is a sight adj sofware. Put in your guns sight radius ( 29.5" for my rifle) how much high at what distance and out pops the result. Lower sight base .057" Pretty cool.
Think I'l take twice that amount off so the sight won't still be at the very bottom

John how about a taller front sight? Might be a faster/cheaper to accomplish the same thing. I`ve always had to make front sight changes when changing the rear. On my 336 I had to use a taller front and on my Marlin 62 I had to file one way down. Both have the Williams FP Receiver Sight installed. POW

Lots easer to just change the fron sight. If you do you might as well put a Williams fire sight on it. Takes about 5 minutes.

If I change the front ,which already seems high, then the folding leaf sight
that replaced the standard sight won't work, or so it seems to me.

gallatin, if my memory serves me right, Williams recommends a front sight with .450" height with the WGRS. You can buy a fine gold bead replacement from Williams at this height. Or, you can buy an excellent front sight from XS sight systems (formerly Ashley) with this height. The XS front sight is a most excellent sight. If there is light in front of it, it is a clearly defined black front post. If the light is behind it, that white stripe up the middle shows up beautifully. It is at just the right angle to fully exploit this property. By all means, get a new front sight.

Oops - almost forgot! This is a COWBOY rifle! My bad! The Marble's front sight is the only fitting choice for your rifle. It is well made, elegant in form, and the traditional sight for such a rifle. This too is available with a .450" height.
