What Do I Call It?
« on: January 29, 2003, 09:34:33 PM »
Begging your indulgence for a moment. Just bought a Thompson, as follows:  16-inch blue barrel, synthetic Monte Carlo style stock (black), in .223 at a gun show. Barrel new in box, stock/forend switched from an existing new gun in another caliber. Only model ID on barrel says "Super 16".  Assembled:  $575.

Just what in hey do I call this bastardized weapon?  And did I get hurt on price?  I need enlightenment.  P.S.  Sure cuddles nice -- no more holding a cast iron deer rifle at arm's length! With scope, just 5-1/2 pounds.

Hate to tell ya but you paid too much. Complete rifle should go in the 450-500 range. Used in the 350-400 range. If it has a scope on it you probably did OK.  KN

That there is what they call a "Contender Carbine"!!  Not bastardized at all ... it's what they're made for!

Thanks, KN and Crayfish.  I've been calling it "the thing."  Now it's properly identified.  Next step:  lapping.
