Huntsman Strikes Again!!
« on: November 12, 2004, 02:52:32 AM »
Well Guys, this is my 2nd year with this huntsman and my 2nd deer.
Using 300gr horndy XTP hp over 85gr pyrodex (loose) powder.
both were shot broad side behind the shoulder....both bullets passed through without recovery. I would really like to recover one to see what kind of expansion and weight retaintion they have.
the exit wounds are small but they completly destroy the vidals inside the deer.

Congrats on the deer!   :D

I also have had good accuracy with the 300 gr XTP's at 100 yds atop 85 gr of 777 FFg. The 300 Hornady's I'm using are the 45cal XTP/MAG's and I was a little concerned about reaching the velocity needed to get their designed expansion performance.

Still, a .452" hole is a rather serious problem for a deer sized animal, regardless of any expansion,..to my way of thinking anyway.
