1st Encore Hunt in TWO Days!!!
« on: November 11, 2004, 01:34:02 AM »
Well you all have helped me get it set up and working....

Now, what do I need to do the morning of. I have a completely clean rifle.

Do I need to fire it once and spit patch it?

Any hints??? It is supposed to be cold but dry!

Gun: Encore 209X50

I don't fire a round in my Encore to foul the barrel. I just run a dry patch through the barrel and load it. I think it is a bunch of BS when people say they need to foul the barrel first. When I shoot at the range I keep my barrel clean and shot it clean and it is sighted in for a clean barrel. JMHO  :D

Well I have heard that people like to foul the barrel also.....

But I didnt really understand why. I know that it was sighted in clean. I think that I will just dry patch it and make sure it is ready to go.

I am pumped I have never had a gun for gun season that is this accurate! I have always hunted shotgun with a Mossberg. This is quite a step up from what I had before!

Any other ML morning hunting suggestion???

Don't forget to snap a few caps off to remove any oil from the breechplug. I snap 3 caps, run 3 solvent patches and follow with 3 dry patches. I'm a little picky though.

Just after I posted that I wondered about the breech plug. I was thinking about when it was sitting in the solvent soaking and wondering how I was going to get the oil out of there. 36 hours till season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The night before or in the morning, I swab the barrel with a patch wet with denatured alcohol. This will dry any oil leftover from cleaning and storing. I then pop a cap or two to make sure the nipple is clear and dry. Load it up and go hunting.
