Which one would be better? I would want one that I could shoot pistol and rifle cartridges.

given the choice I would pick the Encore. But I am glad I don't have to make that choice.  :D

can't cast a vote on that
neither is "better"..........both are "great"

the choice between the 2 depends on what you want.......and i want both.
the encore is a little more "heavy duty".....and handles more standard factory chamberings up to, and including the magnum class. it is slightly bigger, and heavier, and as a result would absorb more recoil.

the G2 contender is a mini-encore look alike. 8)  it cannot handle .308 class cartridges, as it is limited in pressure that the action can handle. there are many fine wildcat cartridges out there for reloaders, that can give major horsepower, and still meet pressure limitations.

both will shoot rifle and pistol cartridges.

Given the question with no background as to use I would have to say Encore simply by virtue of adaptability.  BUT, as Kyode said, the G2, depending on what you want to do, could easily fill the bill.

i think they are $600+. nice package though. they come with a 2.5x7 TC scope n mounts.(although i'd change rings, even though they may be fine). all blue, with rubber grip n forearm, and a nice TC softside case.
caliber choice is limited, but i think....22-250, .270, and .308.

my Dad is the total opposite, and is a die-hard Contender man.  he wont hardly even shoot my Encores...he says they are to big and heavy for him

Chris

I agree with your Dad, we're probably about the same age too!  I didn't vote because I prefer the "old" style contender with the easily adjusted trigger.  I had an Encore but sold it.

I have had two Encores I now own two G2's and no Encores. I guess that says it for me. I liked the Encore but when the G2 came along it filled the bill and will do all I want it to do in a neat little package.  Jerry J
