Versa Pack question..
« on: November 16, 2004, 09:24:43 AM »
(Also putting this on the NEF shotgun forum - 'cuz its both!)

I just purchased (but have not yet received) a Versa Pack 22/410 combo. I seem to recall reading something here on GB in the recent past about someone putting a 20 ga barrel on this little gun.

I sent an email to the factory about being able to do that, and this is what they replied: "Sorry there are no barrels availanble for that model, it is a model all by itself because of the combo rim fire and center fire on the same frame..?"

Now that doesn't actually make complete sense to me because of that last part "rimfire and centerfire on the same frame".. Sounds more like it IS possible to put on a 20 ga barrel... and because I suspect there are imaginative and adaptive folks on this forum I want to get some opinions/info/experiences from anyone willing to share.

Feel free to contact me by PM or email -kandk(at)dashoflife(dot)com if you would rather.

Cheers

Versa Pack question..

hi kerry -

a while back i looked at the versa pack at the local gunshop and thought that the bore on one of the barrels looked off-center, that is, when i looked at the barrel from the breech end.

i can't recall which barrel caught my attention or if i was simply having having a premature senior moment.

if my recollection is right, that may be why standard barrels do not fit the versa pack receiver, as the firing pin may not be in the center of standard barrels.

the firing pin is in the center so the .410 barrel will fire. the .22 barrel is off center so that the pin can hit the rim of the casing.

i dont see why the other barrels wont fit....unless the whole gun is smaller sized like the barrel and stock are.

Centerfire barrels might fit, but its probably an SB1 frame and shouldn't be used. And if the rimfire barrel is offcenter, none of the other rimfire barrels should work either.

Anyone out there got one who can try a 12,16,20 or 28 gauge or .357 barrel on it to find out for sure?....<><....
