I have included a link below to an exploded drawing of the M77 MKI.  The screws that adjust the trigger are D-22, D-43, and D-44. The screw D-22 adjusts the amount of engagement of the sear/trigger.  Adjusting this is dangerous as if too little engagement is provided the surfaces may chip or the rifle be liable to be jarred into firing. The screw D-43 adjusts the weight of the trigger pull and is limited in that by the strength of the spring installed as D-49.  Turning this screw out will lower the spring tension required to be overcome to release the striker.  If the pull weight can't be brought down to where you wish it this spring will need to be replaced by one made from lighter wire but which is still as long as the factory unit.  This insures the trigger will reset and will not be bounced off engagement by the weight of the trigger when the rifle's butt is bounced on the floor.  Screw D-44 adjusts the overtravel of the trigger.  This is the amount the trigger moves after the sear releases. Adjust by tightening until the trigger won't release at all then slowly unscrew until the sear drops.  Give the screw another 1/4 to 1/8 turn and lock.  Always test the rifle for safety by bouncing the butt on a hard surface firmly.  Also rapidly and briskly operate the bolt.  The action MUST stay cocked or the trigger must be readjusted until it will.  As a rule the trigger pull weight should not go below about 3 pounds in a hunting rifle.  After all adjustments are confirmed as OK the adjustment screws should be locktited to prevent the adjustments from changing.  The WARNING-- asjusting the trigger on any rifle using these or any directions entails some danger.  If you choose to do this the danger and the responsibilty for it is entirely yours..

Any local gunshop will have them as will a local gunsmith.  They are likely 6x48, unless the rifle was modified at some point.  Brownells also sells them.  Most hardware stores have plug screws but not the correct size.  A local gunshop(usually not WalMart) should be able to assist...

Thanks, the local gunshop could not 'find' any that fit.

I have been in touch with Brownell's and should have the screws by next week.

Most shops here abouts mount scopes free and the plug screws, unless the sights are also removed are thrown in a box.  Almost all sight screws are 6x48..just what you need..  They can be the cheapest advertisement a shop can have...

Well, have not found any as of yet. These screws are 8X36, according to the spec sheet and Brownell's does not carry that size. Anyone know of a source for slave (set) screws in 8X36 blued?? My local gunshops could not match the tapping, 8X40 was the closest, but they did not have 8X36 either.

Help, I need two 8X36 slave screws.

Sir

Take one of the screws you removed to take the rear sight off with you and go to a local machine shop. They will tell you the size and most likely will have them in house.  8x36 is aa most unusual size indeed.  You may also consider a call the Rugers Customer service number.  They use these plug screws on those m77's sold with rings only...
