First 41 mag deer.
« on: November 16, 2004, 01:31:20 AM »
Got my first deer with my new 657 Smith and Wesson.  It was a doe at 85 yards, dropped in it tracks!  My companions asked if I was using a heat seeking missile.

For ammunition I hand rolled a 255gr wfngc over 296 with cci 350 primer.  Fount this to be extremely accurate and evidently potent as well.

Doubt that I will ever use my 44 again as a primary hunt gun.

Congrats Happy Hunter!!!

I've been looking for a new deer handgun round, and some of the guys on here have been very adamant about the .41 Rem Mag. Looking better all the time

Just one question, how big was the doe, just a rough guess?

Sswweeeeeet!  My first .41 mag deer was a nice 8 point buck, which also dropped in it tracks, but from a neck shot with a 210 XTP.  I like the .41 mag so much that I sold my .480 to get another hunting gun in .41 mag.
Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!

Isn’t it amazing how those deer die when shot with that .41RemMag. I thought you could only kill deer with a .44RemMag.     Guess the deer don't know that either. All joking aside WAY TO GO!!!  :)
Love those .41s'

Congratulations!

I killed a nice doe with my 7-30 Contender the other day and now I will be carrying a .41 Mag Redhawk. I have killed deer with a .41 mag Contender and a Ruger Blackhawk but not the Redhawk as I just picked it up late last season. I am looking forward to it.

I am a big .41 mag fan but recently bought a 4" S&W 29 just because I wanted an N frame. I have never owned a .44 before and looked for two years for a S&W in .41 Mag but the prices were unreal, so I settled for the 29 and got a deal on it.

HappyHunter;

Congrats on that first deer with a 41 Magnum.
Dang...I love this caliber!
Like Raging480, I killed my first deer with a 41 through the neck. I was in my stand, waiting for movement, that never came. Just shot fired, then plopped over dead, no jerking or anything.
Again nice work HH,
Dennis  :D

Congrats on the deer!!!  I'll be toting my 41 for the first time this weekend when season opens.  I've been loading a 265 WLN over a charge of 296.  But, I have some platinum tip bullets that I think I will try out this weekend.  Shot a 2" group @ 100 yards this morning so I'm pretty excited about trying out this new gun.  Will be my first deer with a 41 if things turn out right.  I'll post if all goes well.  GS

IATRKHNTR,

Doe was a small one, a little over 100#.  I have processed the deer and realized that the bullet traveled close to spine and the shockwave must have done in the critter.
