280 Rem. Improved / 280 Rem. Ackley Improved (Difference ?)
« on: February 14, 2005, 05:21:47 PM »
Hello,  I need to know if there is a difference between the 280 Remington Improved and the 280 Remington Ackley Improved.  I am building a 280 Remington Ackley Improved and had a buddy give me a set of RCBS dies that are marked 280 Remington Improved.  Is this the same cartridge or are they to seperate wildcats.

Generally speaking when someone says "Improved" they mean Ackley Improved. If the dies only say Improved I think it pretty safe to assume AI but it wouldn't hurt to call the maker and ask.

Graybeard,
Thanks for the reply.  I think I will give RCBS a call tomorrow and see if they can give me the answer.
Thanks, Scott

Rutten,
I have a 280 Rem. AI, and it has a 40 degree shoulder.  I got my dies from Redding.  I believe there was another 280 Rem. improved but it had a 25 or 30 degree shoulder. P. O. Ackley's Handbook should tell you the difference. Sorry, I got mine loaned out.            Jimbo

Thanks Guys,
I emailed RCBS today and they want me to send the die into them so they can test it.  They have made both 30 and 40 degree shoulder 280 improved die sets.  Do not believe you can find any better customer service than RCBS.
