Scope Bases

95RK,
Are you planning on using a Red dot or Scope?  When I first obtained my S&W model 57 I tried a B-square.  It was the style that was forced around the frame where the barrel threads in.  It gouged the frame, damaged the finish and could not withstand even factory 210 grain loads.  It has since bee replaced with a Redfield Magnum base that I rate very high.  This base has not failed me.  I use Leupold 30mm rings for my Red dot.

The newer models are already tapped.  Look at the top strap from the inside,  if you see a couple of holes, it is good to go.  If not, I would have it done if I wanted to mount a scope.  I have never been satisfied with the others.

Check out this Weigand scope base. http://www.jackweigand.com/swhpmnt.html
It was $30 plus shipping. I put one on my 686 with a BSA red dot. I haven't had any problems with this set up.

Two screw holes are drilled and tapped into the top strap.  The third uses the existing sight elevation screw hole.
