RCBS Die cleaning?

Would it be okay to clean RCBS dies out by spraying them with contact cleaner?  Or is there a better solution or way of doing it?

I'm not sure whether that would be necessary or not.  But for myself, I usually just use a cotton Q-tip and clean out all the loose gunk I can get.  Most notably in the case of pistol carbide resizing dies, I swap the carbide insert before, and after all resizing has been done.  Always get some black residue on the swab, and the insert looks clean and shiny.  Now in the bullet seater dies, either rifle or pistol, I do the same thing.  Usually get the bullet copper and some residue out of the seater plug.  Seems to work fine in my experience.  I think its a good idea to maybe put a drop of oil on the threads every now and then; perhaps every six months depending on the use.  I haven't been doing that, but I guess I should though. :D   Patriot

Brake clean, spray choke cleaner, ect. Just make sure to either blow or wipe them out afterwards to remove the residue if any left. Then if you live in a moist area you may want to give a light coat of oil or sheath to prevent rust. The q-tips soaked in alcohol or Hopps work great too. Just don't want a bunch of oil in a bottle neck sizer die. Hoppes leaves a bit of a oily film that should help with rust.

Use MEK, TCE or carbontet (if you can find them).

Better yet, use the above in an untrasonic bath.

I just spray them out with gun scrubber and drain the fluid afterward. The only other thing I need to do wipe the inside of the seating die with a dowel to remove any lube from cast bullets.

I take them apart and clean them with contact/brake cleaner, rags and q-tips. Then I give them a very light coat of oil to prevent rust.
Close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades.
