Mulegunner,
Two points; The .45 Colt was never made for a rifle.  It has a small rim /flange which gives little to grasp by an extracter (revolvers push out the cases).
It is also a straight case, which is not good in a rifle that has no mechanical advantage to extraction, like a bolt action has.
Add to this, a hot load and maybe a rough chamber and ta-da!
On the positive, if it works, no problem.

Another question.  How did it shoot in the accuracy department?  The size of the rim was increased over the original round years ago.  If you got it out without the extractor slipping over the rim, that's a non problem.  Have you compared your "feeling" of extraction on any other hot rounds?  If your extraction effort is excessive, it could be a rough chamber, but without any other details, it seems to be a reasonable condition.

I really have a hard time believing that any normal factory load in 45LC would be a problem for the '94 Winchester. Unless PMC really screwed up, I'd be looking for a rough chamber. It's also possible (if unlikely) that other action components could be rough, or worn, and the recoil is setting up some resistance.
Have you fired other rounds in this gun without difficulty?
