Win M92 in 38-40
« on: November 29, 2004, 09:16:28 AM »
My local dealer has a nice, original, not refinished M92 in 38-40.  The screws are not buggered and the rifle is tight.  Light pitting in the bore.  Lots of coloring in the metal.  I am not a lever gun guy.  Out of twenty-some-odd rifles I own, all are bolt guns except for the M39A.  I really like this M92.  What would it be worth?  I would rate it at about 80%.  It is first year production.  Thanks,  Bob

VFR,
If it is really "first year production" the bore condition, as a collectable, is not relevant.  Serial no's below 165,432 were made before 1898 and are legally antiques.  Now, we need to know if it is a rifle, carbine, take-down, etc. to evaluate. :D

Shorty,
I will go by and take a look on the way home this evening.  I can tell you that the mag tube goes to the end of the bbl which is octagonal.  Does this make it a rifle?  I don't think it's a take down.  I would buy the rifle as a shooter and reload for it.   Bob

VFR,
Only rifles (with 24" bbls) came octagon.  Carbines were 20" and round.
Special orders could be had any way one wanted.
