Question about a Florida hog Hunt
« on: November 17, 2004, 01:51:14 PM »
My wife is going to DRAG me to visit relatives in Florida.  I am thinking about combinig a vacation and hog hunt combo.  Do any of you know  of a good guide around the Zepherhills area, this is about 100 miles northeast of Tampa.  Any info would be appreciated.  This would be a meat hog hunt not a trophy hunt.

Steve,

Have I got an Outfitter for you!!!!!
http://www.osceolaoutfitters.com/

They are personal friends of mine.   DAMN fine people, Hard workers for your hunt, and good prices for what you get.

Hoppy is getting REAL busy so you will need to call to set up a time - but it is definitely worth it.    And CALL, don't e-mail.................he doesn't travel well on the "information highway"

FLORIDA'S SPANISH HOGS
« Reply #2 on: November 21, 2004, 09:52:36 AM »
Steve, you never know what kinda' hog you'll encounter down here.   About 400 years ago, the Spanish Explorers brought in what they called "Spanish Herding Hogs" from Havana.   These hogs had long legs compared to other European breeds, and were easily herded along as the Explorers moved thru Florida and all over the Southeast US.   Many of those first hogs esecaped into the swamps here in Florida.   They've been breeding and cross-breeding with feral pigs ever since.    IF you come across one, you'll sure know it.    These animals are like mini tanks and are extremely dangerous, with razor sharp tusks that will rip you open from the ankles to the waist in a split second.    IF they get you on the ground, you'll be ripped apart.

A 12ga shotgun with full bore slugs or specialty loads like three 58 caliber musket balls in a single shell will drop'em if you can hit'em.

GOOD LUCK!

I am planning on using a 45-70 Marlin Guide gun, with a partition or barnes bullet.
