i checked out some pistol scopes over the week end
« on: November 29, 2004, 03:26:23 AM »
im new to the Contender game and have only shot my 223 barrel with open sights.scopes are in my future for both barrels.for deer hunting i sure would like a good FOV and i would prefer a variable scope for both.i checked out a Bushnell and a Swift variable scope.the field of view is very small on both evin on the lowest setting.i also checked out some fixed power scopes in 2X.i FOV is much better  with these scopes.one scope i would like to check out is the Bushnell Trophy 2x32 fixed power.the only thing about this scope is they are made with a silver finish only.this would be OK for a stainless gun but on a blued gun i would like a black scope.i dont understand that at all.

have you seen a black Bushnell Trophy in 2x32 in black?

one more scope i checked out was a fixed power 2x Simmons Pro Hunter.it was very clear and had a good FOV.any luck with one of these?

The Bushnell Trophy is also made in a black matte finish.

The Burris 2-7 has the widest FOV of the variables out there right now in a similar power range. At 2X it is the same as the Leupold 2X which has the widest FOV of any of the scopes with magnification.

Hey Jeff I have read the  Bushnell Trophy is a good scope, but I went with the Bushnell Elite 3200 2x6x32 on my .44mag Encore and love it.I went with the Elite because I also have three Encore rifle barrels that are also topped with 3200 Elites.Check them out.

Jeff,

I had to search for almost 30 minutes, but I found a deal for you on a black 2x32 in black.  You're right, the black IS hard to find.

AND IT'S ONLY $64 (on sale)..1/2 the price of the silver!  I'm thinking about picking on up myself.

It's on this page about 1/2 way down:

Do any of you have experience with Red Dot scopes on contenders or other guns?  I have a 2 -6X Bushnell Trophy sitting on a 14" 7x30 waters.  I really like the barrel for shooting off the bench but for hunting deer off a stand at close range I had a heck of a time finding the deer in the scope.  My thought is that at close ranges the red dot scopes should better than going back to open sites.  What is the practical distance for these scopes?

I have several red-dots on handguns. I have a Millet on my BFR 500MAG, a Tasco Pro Point PDP3 on my Ruger Redhawk 44MAG and a Ultra Dot on my Contender 10" 44 MAG barrel. I also have red-dot on other handgun. I would say anything within 100 yards. Target acquisition is very fast with a red-dot.  :D

How are the Bushnell Red Dots?  I have to believe anything with a lifetime warrantee must be fairly decent.

I've been looking for one of those (black) for a while also, thanks for the information -- just another reason I come to this website often -- Just another case of sympathetic purchasing :) Btw, this is going on a new 14" .22 cal. contender barrel.

Just wish finding a 223 or 22-250 carbine barrel for my encore was as easy as finding that scope on clearance!

It seems I can find deals ALL DAY LONG on stuff I'm not really looking for.  :)
