This is my first post to this forum. I would like to thank all of you for your great posts. The info is invaluable. I have decided to buy a sidekick. I will be hunting deer on public land in southern il. only. Often times atleast 1 mile from road. Most shots under 100 yards. Will I be better off with the 24" or the 26" barrel.

KBY, Welcome Aboard!!!, The deer will never know the difference!!! You do not need the 150 grain powder charge of the 26" barrel, in fact you don't even need 100 grains. The ability to shoot rests more with the shooter at that distance than an additional 2" of barrel length. Buy the one you like the feel of and looks of and have fun. For some reason a person always seems to shoot a gun he likes better than one he doesn't because it may feel or look a little odd or muzzle heavy or light to him....<><....

KBY,

Welcome aboard! I have a 24" Stainless Steel/Composite Huntsman and it carries better than any deer rig I have. It really is balanced well with a 3-9x42 S&W scope mounted. If you are walking back in 1 mile, you will probably like the lighter weight of the 24". The 24" will be a tad faster in the handling dept also. You can get up to 100gr of powder to burn in it also, which is more than enough to do the job.

If you have Magnumitis and think you will need more than 100gr of powder then you will want the extra 2" of tube. Like MSP Ret says go handle both and see which one you like, the deer will never know the difference. Bottom line, you are the one who will be carrying it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will look at both. I am leaning toward the 24".
