Siskiyou - did you get one yet?

Have you got that color Legend yet? I was hoping you could tell me if I have to have one or not.....

daddywpb:  I drool a lot, but I am going to wait until the price drops. The color version fits my idea of the perfect gps.  While I am happy with my Legend, the Legend C  has all those features(right size, large memory, and extended battery life) that I love and more.

I notice that a store was advertising the standard Legend for $149.00 this weekend.  It is amazing that others are still selling it for over $200.  Shop, Shop, shop.

I'm sure that since they have upgraded the Legend that the price of the regular Legends will fall quickly. That's the way my luck goes, because I just got my Legend a few months ago.

daddywpb: The other day my wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas.  I told her that I want another GPS.  Her response was a little shocked.  She wanted to know what was wrong with my Legend.  I told her there was nothing wrong with it.  But I had run out of memory for maps.  Of course I have been able to load maps of areas I planned on hunting and travelling if I had my laptop with me.

MEMORY is a key word with my wife.  She is the one who got me into computers twenty years ago.   We have bought a number of computers over the years and memory has been one of the big drivers.  Currently her computer has an internal and external hard drive.  I told her that I wanted a Garmin Legend "C" for Christmas.  I explained the advantage of the color screen in sunlight, and my old eyes might track better on the screen.  The additional memory would allow me to store more maps on the gps.  I hunt and fish in a some widely scattered locations.  And if I got an emergency assignment I would more then likely have a map for that area pre-loaded in my gps.  And if not the pre-loaded map from the factory would help me in route.  The longer battery life is also important to me.

I then downloaded the information for the Legend C for her.  I wanted to make sure that she bought the one that I wanted.

We were both using our computers which are next to each other.  I brought up the Garmin site and went to the comparison chart.  I pointed out that I did not want the cost of one with a electronic compass.  Because I carry a compass anyway and there are no batteries to go dead.

She kept keying in on the amount of memory.  She knows our history with computers.  We have always been buying more RAM and larger hard drives.  She says she knows me and in a couple of years I will want a new gps with more memory.  She asked about gps units with removable memory.  I told her that Magellan makes a number of units with removable memory.  But in turn I explained why Magellan was not at the top of my list.  I told her the Garmin 60C had enough memory to cover California and Nevada areas of interest.  Or if we were on the Right Coast a number of States.

I told her that the Garmin 60C has great features but cost more.  But it has the memory, a better antenna, and other bells and whistles.

Then it got scary!  She ask about a PDA with a gps unit.  I told her that a PDA would have been great before I retired but I do not want one now.  When I get assignments a good gps along with my cellphone is all I need.  The cellphone has a lot of information stored in it.  And at times I drag my laptop along.  She kept going on about a PDA/GPS.  I am sure that it is the computer person in her.  I may have over come that issue.  We went to the specs and found that it is not waterproof.  A PDA/GPS would be a great tool for those that need both functions.  I do not believe that I would benefit from a PDA at this time.

Nice work! So which one did you decide on? My wife and I were out shopping for the kids last Saturday. We were in Best Buy, and she saw a sign that said "GPS NAVIGATION", and sent me over there - probably 'cause she needed to get away from me for a few minutes. We bought the kids IPods, and I was busy having a coronary. Anyway, I was hoping to get a look at the 'C' models, but they didn't have any. The Legends were $199, and the Vista was $299. She tried to get me to get the Vista when she got me the Legend. As usual, she was right, but I didn't want to spend the extra money. I wish I had the extra memory. I'm always swiching map sets. Except for the memory, the Legend does everything I need. When you figure out which Santa's bringing, let us know.
