Cost/Need for a Muzzle Brake!!??

about how much would it cost for me to have a muzzle brake put on my Remington 700 ADL 30-06??

Also, would it be a custom made one, or would it be a "pre-fabbed" muzzle brake, that can be made to fit my gun??

Also, would it be worth the cost, and have enoguh benefits??

goose, I had a howa 1500 in 338mag done by them. Their work is top quality. and ifin you call them they take the time to talk to you and explain things.Their nr is #1-800-809-4039

It seems shipping round trip and the work was around  $200.00
I could hardly find the line where the brake matched up to the bbl, and color matched. Have also seen some of their stainless muzzle brakes and the same with that.
As for recoil tamed the 338mag down quite a bit (as long as I left the hot loads alone  :eek: )

thanx great webiste.......i didnt even know a company was called "muzzle brake", I just meant in general muzzle brakes, and if a local gunsmith could make one, but they seem to be a very nice company (ill look into it)

Any one else??

I had Rifle'sinc put a muzzlebrake on my 35 Whelen several years ago.  It really works in taming  the recoil.  It was appx $200.00 plus shipping for the work.
 My local smith will also put brakes on for around $200.00 total.
 One thing to remember is that the noise increases with the brake.  Not a problem at the range with hearing protection, but may be a problem for you while hunting.
 Have you tried having a smith fit your stock to you properly.  A stock that fits will be much easier on the shoulder.  You may not need a muzzlebrake.

Too many negatives and not enough to be gained in a gun with no more recoil than the '06. If recoil at that level is bothering you then you should just go to lighter loads for now and work your way up to it. You can load it to .30-30, .300 Savage or .308 level in working your way up the ladder to full loads and use either 125/130 grain or 150 grain bullets. The money would be much better spent on ammo than a brake.

a muzzle brake is a great idea for guys like me with bad shoulders and any round can be potentially a hazard to me, i also think that they can be a pain if not taken care of after shooting them or being out in the field. the way i figure it is i can let the bullet fly and watch the animal either go down or run a bit but also am very serious about the the need for onefor me even if the shot can be heard two counties away lol.
i just want to be comfortable and this iwll  help me both physically and mentally when i am in the field or at the range.
that is why i like a muzzle brake and will get one on my new 308 barrel

I have to agree with GB at least to a point.  Muzzle brakes are wonderful devices but the 30-06 is nut a hard kicker..  Still if it bothers you I suppose the brake may be worth the while.  They are very noisy and unwelcome at some ranges.  Also fellow shooters may stay away from you and your noisemaker...  They do work but there is certainly a price.  the sound to unprotected ears is damaging.  They should always be fired with hearing protection on board..  Perhaps a 243 or 25-06 or even a 270 would be better.  The recoil is less and the bullets work well on big game..  A good pad and perhaps a recoil reducer in the butt stock will help.  The lighter bullets(below 150 grains) in 30 caliber are not designed for 30-06 velocities for big game they are really varmit bullets.  With thin jackets and higher velocities they often blow up and leave shallow wounds.  Especially if heavier bone is hit..  Sometimes a gunsmith can alter a stock for a better fit or install a stock that fits better.  This can also go a long way to reducing the pain...  Brakes work but there is a price to pay, you decide..

I have just decided to get the R3 Recoil Pad for my 700 ADL, and it works great, thanks for all the replies!!
