Huuntsman Ramrod--Help
« on: November 23, 2004, 07:12:44 AM »
Ramrod works fine with the powerbelts that I use.  My problem is cleaning the barrel.  If I get a patch stuck how do I get it out without my range rod and patch puller?  What is the thread pitch of the ramrod and does anyone make accessories to fit this rod.  All other accessories seem to be 10-32.  I do have a range rod but don't plan on bringing it hunting with me.

Don't know what the thread size is on the huntsman ramrod but I got to thinking about that myself.  What I did was get a T/C Universal Pack Rod and carry it broke down with a rubber band around it so it doesn't rattle around.  I put it together when I get to my blind so it's ready to go.

I use an unbreakable rod that is long and sticks out past the muzzle. It does not interfere with your shots because it is well below the muzzle. You can get one of the aluminum T.C. rods from Wal Mart and cut it to length. For lost patch retrieval, I carry a stuck ball remover, wood screw on one end and adapter thread on the other end. It is easier to find T.C. accessories than any other.

Hey SKI,
I bought a adaptor for the ramrod.  Will check tomorrow and give you the thread size.

Ski,    The pitch on the factory ramrod tip is 8-32".  One thing you can do, if unable to readily find 8-32 accessories, is to center drill the flat surface of the factory tip with a 5/32" bit and tap with a 10-32" tap (couple of bucks at hardware).

You can also purchase a 8-32 to 10-32 adapter through Cabela's or most well stocked sporting goods. Traditions inc. makes one ( # A1271) for around $2.60/ea.

If all this fails, and you are in a real hurry, take your ramrod down to your local hardware. Unscrew the tip..and find a stiff spring that can be forced onto the end of ramrod about 1".
When you get home, pull the last couple of coils out a little (stretch them) and snip end (tip) with wire snip, on angle, to make end of wire pointed. In a pinch, can use this spring for a patch retrieval in the field.

Hey SKI,
I see Primer gave you the size.  That's what I have.  Good Luck.
