Bostic Plantation hog hunt ?

Has anyone hunted the bostic plantation for wild hogs , if so how was it?

Hooked up a friend to go there.....I'm lucky he still talks to me.  He had a miserable time.  Only one hog was killed for 15 hunters.  He was dropped off to a stand in the morning and picked up for lunch and again at dinner.  His exact words were...this is a money making operation.

I was there, and the hog hunt on stand was really slow. I ended up taking two while walking to my stand. They do have a ton of hogs there though. their dog hunts will get you one though. The guide did try to find us large hogs on the dog hunts. One was 500+ the other was 300+.

I did see a ton of deer and turkey though.

Bostic is NOT a high fence operation. It is NOT shooting stocked hogs.

What it is tho is true free range hog hunting. You pays your money and you takes your chances. That's not an at all unusual percentage for such hunting. And if you are stuck in blinds "hoping" a hog will come your way and no bait is out? Well that's a pretty good average.

If you want a sure thing go to a fenced operation with a guaranteed hunt. If you want the true hunting experience for wild hogs find a place with free range hogs that will let you walk and stalk them. Don't expect to make a kill a high percentage of the time as it ain't gonna happen.

I've hunted them both ways. On fenced operations success is 100%. That's a given. But on all of my free range hunts combined including those over bait as well as walking and stalking? Well let's just say the average is MISERABLE! Way under 10%. Maybe not even 5%. Some places the hog population is such you'll have a much better chance. But in all the places I've hunted them as free range hunts there were hogs and I did see hog sign often quite fresh. But it ain't as easy as in the videos if you're free range hunting.

I am in COMPLEAT agreement with Greybeard as always...Hogs are not as stupid as people may think and they have just as good or even better noses than deer and are increadibly weary animals..Dogs are the best way to hunt free range animals or if you feel kinna crazy a nice drive on them but I really dont like the idea of an upset hog comin back at me after winding another hunter..Thier eyesight is poor so sometimes if they are out of the wind they wont know you are there untill they are on ya and then you may have the bad luck of findin out them tusks aint just for show....Sittin a stand on free range hogs will deliver poor results many times more than not, even a baited stand..As far as my info goes on the Bostic ranch, as I was going to take my dad on one of thier handicapped hunts but he didnt make it long enough in this old world for the hunt to come through, They are a VERY acceptable establishment with several well trained guides that will bend over backwards to help you take whatever it is you are hunting for there..But again we remind you that ALL of thier hunts are free range and people can only do so much..Lady luck can be your best friend or your worst enemy...Thats why its called hunting and not Killing....Have a great day and in My opinion Bostic is a very nice place if you are into people that will treat you well and do thier best to accomplish your goals

1 in 15 sounds TERRIBLE to me.  Maybe I am spoiled here in TX but everywhere i have hunted hogs....no high fences....that percentage would not be acceptable.  But I have never paid for hog hunting either.

I decided I wanted to kill a hog the other day on our deer lease.  Notice I did not say hunt.  If I wanted to hunt them, I would have taken my bow.  I drove the truck onto one of our food plots and parked it.  While sitting and chatting with my wife and father, we watched about 15 deer feed and afetr sitting for about an hour or two, out came a hog.  Just one as they are rutting a bit now and it was a boar.  Boom...flop....hog meat for the freezer.

There is hardly a day on our lease where we do not kill one or at least pass the shot on one.  They are everywhere.   Farmers are constantly asking us to thin the hog population.  So to someone from my background....1 out of 15 STINKS!

I've done some free range hunting of hogs in East TX and while the land appeared to be covered up in them that same 1 in 15 wasn't about the averaget here also. And that was over established baits.

I'm sure it varies a lot but that's not an unrealistic average on free range hogs. Here in Bama my average is even worse but we don't have as many.

No doubt about what you are saying.  I understand one in 15 in some areas may be good.  I was just providing a different perspective.  I am in an unbelieveable area for hogs.  "Milo" (sp?) fields area abundant and many are irrigated, and drought does not hurt us.  

In thick wooded areas, I would think that stalking would be way more productive and if I were looking to pay to hunt hogs, i would ask as many ?'s as possible about success rate and means of hunting.

Here in TX to increase success rates on soem pay to hunt ranches, some hunting is done at night.  Where I am hunting, it is pretty open with only a few creek bottoms and almost no oaks so they HAVE to come out and feed.  Many times during broad daylight.  We trapped 217 hogs in 4 months last year and we still have plenty hogs.

Ive heard many bad reports about bostick.  Probably between 10-15.

I have been to Black River Plantation in SC 4 times , two (2) day hunts and two (3) day hunts.  On the three day hunts all the hunters got a shot at a hog.  One guy missed twice.  On the two day hunts of 5 hunters thee got a shot.  

They have a lot of property and bait heavily with corn.  They stand hunt dark to dark with a few hours off the stand for lunch.  They have plain but functional lodging and you do your own cooking.  

They also hunt deer, turkey and duck in season.  

I always have a blast when I go, most fun you can have with your pants on!! :lol:

i did hunt bostick in 2000 , it was a lousy money making outfit,  they advised they would only have 14 hunters in camp we had 35 plus, we were packed on the trucks like sardines- i would never recommend that place. :?
