Hello i just got permission to trap this WONDERFUL area just full of muskrats i set out about 10 traps yesterday and am setting alot more out soon out of the 10 i caught 4 muskrats today i am happy with this but i am just curious do you think it would increase my catch numbers if i went and stuck a little bit of apple on the trigger of my 110s do you think this would make muskrats that arnt really using that trail at the moment come over to it and get caught or do you think this might just be a waste of time just figured i would ask as i thought it was a good idea

I would put bait beyond conibear so muskrat has to go thru conibear to get to bait. You can use apple, carrot , parsnip or a good muskrat lure. You can also use a grass or some white looking roots will work also.. Good luck.

If they don't show up in a few days move on. Muskrat trapping is numbers and moving. No action in two days change. I've found an apple piece behind a foothold a flexible set. Just make in an area that visible to the rat but still looks secure enough for him to eat the snack.
I have found though baited triggers work great under ice. Find some air bubble trails and hang the conibear just below the ice. Most areas I just use a lathe and a 160. Nice way to pick up extra rats if you can't get into the house or get in front of the run.

although easy to catch under water, ihave foun it very hard to get a rat in a 110 set on land. I have actually caught more mink in 110 land sets than rats. I would build several crude funnels if you are trying to increase your daily numbers, or just sit back and relax as you take them one at a time.
