I have a Buffalo Classic, 45-70 comming my way. I bought the one from raynor. Those of you that have one, what bullet weight do they seem to prefer? I will most likely be shooting cast bullets but will also want a jacketed bullet load. Any input would be appreciated.

Good for you 87-19, what a deal, I wanted to buy it myself but I have a Handi in 45-70 and no extra cash right now so I'm glad you got it, what a deal...From memory try the 350 grain Hornandy RN half jacket (.359) with standard primers and 28.0 grains of 2400 for a sweet shooting easy recoiling and accurate (out of my 45-70 at least) load. Check this first but I am pretty sure that is my load. Try the search feature when it comes online again and you will find many good 45-70 loads....Welcome to the 45-70 club, we should get shirts or hats or something!!!...and...

Me too! I've been trying to convince myself that I needed another .45-70 cuz that was such a good deal, Glad ya got it, now I'm not temped. What MSP has suggested is the load that I used in my .45-70 handi and it shot real good, very accurate and a pussy cat for recoil.

Thanks guys! I have moulds from 300 gr. up to 535 gr. I also have on hand the 350 gr. Speers and the Hornadys you mentioned. Sounds like the 350s' are the way to go. Thanks again.

I just loaded some of these 405's
(site)
with 12.0 gr of Green Dot that will shoot close to an inch at 100 yards. The velocity is in the neighborhood of 1050 fps, but given the accuracy and low recoil, I'll be hunting with them in the morning. :grin:

That is the same bullet I use for my plinking loads using Unique powder. These come in a box of 500 for around $38.00, and I buy them locally and avoid shipping.

I don't have anything available locally, so I just had to go ahead and order them. I was amazed they actually shot pretty well considering I haven't ever had a bevel based bullet that would.

I have found with Midway a box of 250 big bullets doesn't add much to the minimum shipping charge. I got 20 lbs of bullets for about $4 more than the shipping on the dies I needed.

I have found this 405-gr bullet to shoot better than any other cast 405-gr that I have tried in both the Buffalo Classic and the Handi 22" barrel. For the money I don't think they can be beat.

I have other 405-gr bullets on hand, but I like the bevelbase of this bullet for seating into the case.

Hey Guys,

I just found out they make one of these in 38-55, do any of you guys have one and hows it shoot? Is it chambered for the traditional longer length case or modern? Do cast bullets work best in these rifles or jacketed?

I'm a BPCR Silhouette shooter and thinking of getting one of these for a Deer Rifle. Whats the average price?

Check this link out http://buffaloclassic.tripod.com it was the very first website I created for H&R Firearms just for the Buffalo Classic 45-70 and the Target Model 38-55... please understand the Target Model is not a Buffalo Classic rifle. I'm just correcting your understanding here so there is no misunderstanding about which is which.

I have not noticed any and I repeat any leading. With cast bullets, if you run them at moderat FPS you souldn't get any. Super charge the load and you will get a bunch.

I'm only running these at about 1050 fps, so I haven't noticed any leading. Of course, these are fairly hard bullets, Lyman #2 alloy, and shouldn't lead like swaged or soft lead would. I would think they could be pushed to 1200-1400 fps without too much of a problem.
