What kind and brand of decoys do you use?

I only use G&H.

Canada Shells and floaters for geese.

Weighted keel Mallard and Green Wing Teal for ducks.

the kid and I are using a mixed bag fron herters and flambeau to ahalf dozen old victors and 2 dozen dunhams cheapys .   the dunhams are small and are great for along the rush line just in front of the crane decoy that I made out of paper machay,  the smaller ones in close seems to bring them a little closer and gives me and the kid some real nice shotting ,if we remember to shot  the sight of the birds being that close is worth all the work of setting up, and its kind of fun letting the sky blasters blast there hearts out and then we unload , 20 min and shotings dune .seeing better than shotting any way.

i like g and h duck decoys from cabellas... when i first started goose hunting i sawed out some silloets from plywood and painted them black..  i got enough geese to wet my appitite.. they would circle and see the one side and keep going around and the geese decoys would dissapear as they were one dimentional.. id swear their eyes would bulge when the dekoys  dissapeared..  ive have seen one of the best goose hunters in the area that used such big decoys it was a problem getting them in a full sized pickup..  so theres all kinds of decoys, rich mans dekoys, poor mans dekoys, and all the ones inbetween..  i hear some guys use diapers..  its like guns, its not the gun you use, its the hunter.. better equipment helps, but its not totaly nessesary for success, especially since true  success is in ones mind..  glad to be able to post here im a newbie for this site, looks very good to me..   good luck dave.

I use a mixed bag. Several different brands collected over the years in several different sizes and even slight color variation with some socks mixed in for motion. Seems to work for me.    FFFFFG You might have had better luck with the silouets if you placed them 90 degrees to each other. that way some are always visible (except from straight above).

Hey I just joined this forum and I love it.  Waterfowl is the one subject that I know a lot about especially since I'm only 26.  

About 10 or so years ago my father purchased about 20-25 dozen G & H decoys.  They have faired pretty well over the years.  A little off season clean up and touch up of white paint keeps em looking great unlike other dekes that wear out.  We have been in duck clubs here in the Sacramento Valley (rice fields) and they dekes sit out the entire season.  My only complaint is on the Mallard dekes with the turnable, removable heads.  These seem to break off and come off to easy as opposed to the pintails heads which swivel but don't come off.  The only other danger to em is when a cripple falls into em and some guy shoots the dekes, but I don't know who that could be.   :-D

Welcome to the forum.  Glad to have another waterfowler out there.

20-25 dozen G&H's!!! I would sure hate to carry them in every morning. :-D

I live a couple of hours from the factory so we swing by every couple of years or so and buy a couple more dozen.  I guess I have about 16 dozen or so myself.  You can even buy "second's" for a little cheaper.

Stay around a while and talk ducks and geese.  We need some more friends!!!

Yes, obviously if his intention was to put em out every morning he would have to clone me or have like 20 other sons.  Just carrying one of those big bags of em on your back is enuf without shells, gun, snacks, etc.   :lol:


As repeated here if your (as in whoever reads this)  looking at dekes that last buy G & H's.  With a little maintenance they hold up.
 Thats cool you live by the factory.  I'd be curious to see what 2nd's are like.  

We own quite a few of outlaw silouettes (*sp) of which a bunch are 2nd's.  Some had a green sheen to em but we cycled those out.  My dad found out about outlaws and bought some back in the early 1990's (before they were known).  He and I were hunting Unit 9 at Lower Klamath (a 1000+ acre ag field) with em put out.  We were laying amongst em and car after car would drive along and then stop suddenly when they saw the spread.  Guys would get out and use bino's thinking our spread was real honkers untill we sat up.  As we were leaving we pulled out slowly and a Fish & Game guy came barreling around the corner and almost hit us with his truck.  Turns out he saw the spread and had to know what we had.  At first my dad was worried that we did something wrong but the Agent was very nice and just wanted to chat.  I tell ya, I was 13,14ish when we first got em but I remember how those silouetts would dominate all other spreads around.  

Yeah 3 weekends till North eastern california and Oregon open!  I count the days!

Im am also a new member of this website and i enjoy it alot.  I am a young hunter who spends most of his extra time in the blind.  I am interested in learning more from all you guys!

Over the few  years I have been hunting I gathered a few decoys here and there, but this year I ran across the Greenhead Gear Fullbodys, there is nothing like them.  They are alot better looking then the bigfoots, yet, about $40 cheaper a dozen.  They are the most realistic decoys iv ever seen. The geese love them also!

For the money you cant beat the greenhead decoys, by far the best looking.  G & H are very nice as well though.
