I have 2; one chambered for .243 Win and the other for 7mm-08. Both are abour 5 years old. Originally had to do a little work get the stock properly bedded on both. The .243 required the front pressure pad to shoot accurately; the 7mm-08 shoots best with the barrel floated. Also had to work the triggers over to get them to an acceptable pull weight. Both will group in the 3/8"-5/8" range with the loads they like with the 7mm-08 being more finicky as to what it likes.

I have a .243 VLS that I rechambered to 6-284. The only problem I was able to see in the original was the forend of the original it was warped to the left. This was a surprise because of the laminated construction, I didn't think they could warp. The 6-284 now wears a HS precision stock, but I fit the laminated stock to another older 700 varmint and glass bedding cured the forend problem. This one is the only one I ever heard of with a crooked forend. I have seen several 700's with a build-up of finish mat'l along the edge of the bbl. channel creating pressure that needs removed, but this is an easy fix with a piece of sandpaper.

I have two also.  A .243 and a .22-250.  The .22-250 was my first.  All I have done to it is add a Jewel trigger and I get 1/4" groups.  Of course that was after finding the right load.  I liked it so well, I bought the .243.  I can't speak of the .243's accuracy yet.  I'm still working up some loads.

I don't think you can go wrong with a VLS.
