dull gray finish?

a couple of years ago i saw several m77 laminated sporters in .270, 7mm,etc. with a dull gray stainless metal finish like you see on the ruger target rifles. does anyone know if this was a special run or something. i really would like to find one that doesn't have that bright finish you see on the m77 now.

I still see them in the shops around here-----but they are going for a $100 premium over the other 77's on display right next to them.

Ruger calls this a "Low Glare Stainless" which is their patented "Target Grey" process. All of the Target 77s are available in this finish now.

I've seen used SRH's with chips in the Target Grey finish. I think I'd rather have regular ol' stainless.

Thats because they were the ones used for Kalifornia's drop test research! :)  

I have one and put over 500 454s and over 1000 45 LCs through it.  Not one chip to be seen, and still looks and operates the day I first took it out. :grin:   Patriot
