Deer season closed sunday and my new encore showed up monday. I did go to the range with it and put a box of rem. 140"s threw it. Denfinitly need to order differnt trigger spings and maybe have a polish job done. I was not happy with the groupes 1 1/2 inches at 100 yrds. but will hold off judgement until I have the springs and I can shoot in weather warm enough that I'm not shivering.
Am I remembering rite in thinking that I have read here that you do not piller float or put warsers in the synthetic fore arms to free float them.

I had to free float my hornet barrel before it would shoot , I used a pair of small rubber washers.
1 1/2 inch groups aint bad for the first time out . With alittle work it sill shoot great

i had seriousl considered bedding my encore but decided it wasn't worth it to me as i am a hunter and not a bench shooter. i know ifyou want to do so you can bed your forends. i am shooting great groups that i can fit a quarter over at 100 yards and that will definatley take good care of you. i guess i was pretty lucky with my encore i had it checked out and it was a crisp between 3 to 3.5 lbs which is what i have always liked when hunting. i have absolutely no creep in my trigger so i feel very lucky as i have heard many people say something about the trigger. good luck to you and enjoy the gun my 308 and my 50 cal are excellent shooters and i am very happy with them i am either going to get a 243 or a 204 next.

I find that 3/16 ruber flat washers work great for free floating the barrel from the forearm. I get them at Home depot for $0.40 for 4 of them. I used the washers for both the synthetic and laminated stocks. I have found this to be an extremely cheap way to increase a given barrels accuracy.

Thanks guys, I finaly got time to check out the forearm on the Encore. Just to make things clear mine is the composite forearm.
What I found during the inspection is that the forearm is basicly hollow with two screw pillers and two barrel chanel pillers. The front screw piller sets center between the barrel pillers. The back screw piller is considerably lower then the front, so what I did was to take a little grease,it was all I had to try and use,smeared a thin layer on all pillers and installed the forearm. What I found is that the barrle is ridingon the back barrle piller and the front screw piller. So what do you think of taking the front screw piller down just enough that the barrle is ridding on the barrle pillers like seems it was meant to?

Not to sound overly ignorant, but what does floating a barrel from the forearm do? How does it affect accuracy?

The simplest way I know how to explain it is that it gives the same constant pressure points between forarm and barrel.
In my case I beleif the forearm was rocking a little dependending on how I laid it on the rest. The rocking of the forearm could have been changing the pressure point on the barrel which can change the pintof impact. Now I am a long long ways from being a expert on this and stand tobe corrected by anybody, but that is my understaninding of it.
