I have been hunting central Minnesota since 1994 after I moved back from Oregon and have been shot at twice by Hmong/Vietnamese. I used to hunt the Federal area called Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge until the late 1990's then switched to Sand Dunes State Forest. For some reason I have never seen any Hmong in any of the State Forests, I assumed it was because they went to the Federal areas closer to the St. Paul and Minneapolis area.
I usually avoid the Hmong while hunting, I keep my distance as they have shot at me on 2 occasions, and it is well known that there has been some friction with other hunters and land owners. We had 2 guys who were shot by the Hmong that I know of, one of the Hmong hunters said the fellow in the tree stand with the compound bow was a squirrel, and then left him to bleed after using a .22 on him. The Hmong guy was later convicted. I don't own any hunting land so I have the option of avoiding trouble.
If I owned any hunting land I would use patience and try to be polite, then call the police, if they were trespassing, and never turn my back on them while moving away. It will be interesting to see how things are next year. I am grateful that I don't have crowds to deal with where I go.
I am planning to move to Texas, I suppose things will be different in regards to the cultural aspect of the hunters there.
