sights question
« on: November 30, 2004, 11:49:31 AM »
Anybody using the truglo sights or something simular on a winchester, or marlin for that fact?  I have seen them in Cabelas and seems they would have to be better that the iron sights.  Input appreciated

Jeff

I've installed the Williams Firesight on my Marlin 30-30, complete with the FP 94 rear apeture sight.

Haven't had a chance to shoot it though, and find out what my opinion is.
The front sight, though, has a much smaller (and therefore more accurate?) "dot" profile on a target than the factory gold dot.

Once I do shoot it, I'll try and remember to post the results here.

These old lever guns are a hoot to shoot, but my eyes are crying for a little better sight picture!!.  Scoping a lever gun in my opinion just aint right.  John never had a scope on his!!!  Wayne that is.
Thanks

Lever sights

Jeff,

I should have also mentioned this.

The Williams FP and Firesight replaces a Lyman 66 that "disassembled" itself at the range.  I just sent the Lyman back to Conneticut to be repaired.

When I switched from the buckhorn sights to the Lyman, my group size dropped from 3" to 1 1/2" @ 100 yds.  Just for fun and to get rid of some Speer ammo I had loaded, I sent 100 rounds at the 100 yd gong at our local range.  I hit it damn near every shot.  I was sold on a peep sight for the gun, enough that I installed a Lyman 57 on a 50 cal GPR muzzleloader that I was building.

The Lyman 66 has a better sight picture than the Williams, but in terms of quality of manufacture, I don't know.  As for Customer Service, well, we'll see what happens.

Swecology, I also have a Lyman GPR(hunter). I installed their 57gpr peep on it but I'm using the rifle as a deer hunter & I've found that the Thompson/Center hunting-tang peep sight works better....it fits, no extra work to do & it is more "field-friendly", IF you're using the rifle to hunt with. The 57gpr sight is great for target shooting, though. jd45.
