Stiff cycling on 9422
« on: December 01, 2004, 05:56:46 AM »
I found a busted up snap cap in my 9422.  Took the rifle apart, cleaned it.  When I recycle the action, the extraction cycle is normal but the load cycle is very stiff forcing a good deal of pressure to close the bolt.  Once closed the firing pin engages (at least on a snap cap - way too cold to go out and shoot).

I can't see anything wrong with the individual parts.  Anybody experience this problem or know how to fix it?

Thanks,
SteelEye

Question for you.

Was it stiff before?  Did you put the snapcap in it?

If it was not stiff before, I'd say something got left in there.  Maybe stuck on the receiver wall that you didn't see.  How'd the snap cap get busted?

The gun was operating normally before this incident.

A while back I dropped a snap cap in the tube and it never loaded.  Something distracted me and I didn't pickup the gun for a few days.  I had forgotten the missing snap cap.

A few days ago I changed the snap cap I was working with and loaded a new one.  The old one ejected normally but the new one didn't load at all.

I discovered parts of a snap cap in the feed tube.  I had to force it out with a cleaning rod.  When I loaded the new snap cap, I had to force the lever to close.

I took the gun apart, gave it a good cleaning and could not find any pieces of snap cap or otherwise anything out of place.  Once assembled the problem with forcing the lever remained.

I'm thinking the snap cap got busted up because I over used it.  When I am dry firing, sometimes I get carried away when I am shooting well and end up destroying the cap.

Sounds to me like you missed some pieces.
