Here is my list:

1st choice (by a long shot) - 6.5x55 1:10" 24" barrel

2nd choice- 7.62x54R 22" barrel (Lots of cheap ammo available, in addition to some decent hunting loads)

3rd choice- .32H&R magnum (so I can plink with all of the .32S&W Long ammo that I have, and hunt with the mag ammo) 20" barrel

4th choice- .257 Roberts 22" barrel

Since I started this thread, I felt the need to tally the votes to this point.

The TOP 10 with ties are:

35 Whelen                  17 votes
6.5x55 Swede            17
257 Roberts               13
357 Magnum              13
357 Maximum            11
444 Marlin                 10
7-30 Waters              10
7x57                         10
405 Winchester           9
41 Rem Mag                9
7.62x39                      9

I would be happy with all of these.

I would like to see the Versapack offered in stainless.
I would also like to see it offered in a 22lr and 20 gauge barrel combo with synthetic stocks. While we are at it lets ad a .243 Win. barrel to the combo that would work on the Versapack frame.

I like several of the choices but I will throw another of my favorites into the mix, a .35 Remington. And since this is a dream list how about a nice traditional rimmed caliber, a .348 Winchester!!!....<><....

This is kind of a follow up on Mac's post of Sept 08.  We need to find a good gunsmith that is willing to work on the handi"s.  One that  understands how we feel about these funny little rifles.  One that could weld a lug on a barrel and rechamber it, keeping in mind that these are not bolt rifles and understand their limitations.  I would love to have a 6mmBR chambered in a barrel with a 1/9 or 1/8 twist.  Not the standard 1/10 twist that NEF produces.  Anyone find one, let us know, if he is reasonable in his fees, he will suddenly get a lot of work.  Right guys????

I have been visiting this forum for a while and it just amazes me to see you guys want all kinds of after market parts and custom work done on the handi guns but when someone makes something for you it seemd no one will buy it.
Do you expect someone to do this for nothing or what?
I followed the thread about replacement stocks and after you found a stockmaker to make the stocks only a couple people made a purchase.
If I was a gunsmith or aftermarket manufacuer I would stay clear of you guy's, if you keep asking someone to make after market parts for your guns and then no one buys you will end up with a bad rep which will affect all of the handi owners.

.458 Lott !!!!
Makes a great DEER cartridge...no joke...no such thing as killin' em TOO dead !
Go MAGNUM/MAX LOAD or GO HOME !
Always use MUCH more gun than the minimum required to do the job.

257 Roberts

17 Rem

6mm PPC

222 Rem

22 Eargesplitten Loudenboomer

Btw: The last one is a 378 Weatherby Mag casing necked down to .223". It was developed by PO Ackley to reach velocities in excess of 5000fps. I would say it can do it considering the casing holds more than 100 grains of powder............................of course having a Handi chambered in this cartridge would equal death. I can't imagine the chamber pressure

Do you think H&R/NEF would accept/consider a wish list from its loyal owners?  I can think of few chamberings I would like to see    ...I really would like to see them come out with more rimmed calibers like the powerful and flexible .303 British a perfect round for hunting and there are som many quality factory loads available now like the pmc silver line of hunting and "match" loads...also, a really good eastern woods deer round like the super accurate .375 winchester would really go a long way to round out a nearly perfect list of calibers, finally, 6.5x55 swedish in a long 26-inch barrel with a scope mount ultra rifle configuration...awesome!

My wish list:

1. .357 Mag. (want to plink with the oodles of .38 Spl. ammo that I have).

2. .32 H&R Mag. (Small game hunting and ability to plink with the oodles
of .32 S&W long that I have).

3. 7.62x39.

4. Rimmed large bore. Like maybe the .416 Barnes.

Like to see some longer barrel lengths on the iron sighted rifles too.
