If your rifle is like my stainless classic there are two nuts on a screw. One nut is a locking nut. Break the nuts apart so you can move the nut against the spring to adjust trigger pull weight. Away from the spring lessens the pull weight and towards the spring increases it. DO NOT adjust the pull weight to less than 3#. There is a slot in the end of the screw running through the trigger spring. You can adjust the screw in and lessen the over travel. You adjust this a little at a time. If you over do it the trigger will not release the sear and the rifle will not fire. The idea is to get the sear to release with little or no more rearward movement of the trigger as it's pulled.

The previous info is quite correct..  just a little note.  On the last few M70's (new ones) I found the return springs used would be more at home under one corner of a buick.  The spring is so hard that 3 pounds can't be reached and still have positive rset function.  That spells danger in any language.  A lighter powered spring of the correct length will allow the adjustment to 3 pounds and still have plenty of working length left to completely reset the trigger...  Be extra cautious if the trigger has too much side to side motion in it.  This makes trigger adjustment a tricky thing...The generous manufacturing tollerances need to be shimmed out before a really nice job can be done.
