Author Topic: Opinions of the Remington 700 VSF LH in 308 win? and scope? (Read 1424 times)

Hey guys I am considering purchasing a 700 VSF LH in 308 this spring. I will use it for target shooting and deer hunting (I have a lighter rifle for when I am not stand hunting already). I was wondering if anyone has handled one and what opinion of it they have? Also are the triggers better than other remington rifles? I hear other remmy triggers ar 8-12 pounds....that is just TOO much for a $900 msrp target rifle (but that may not stop me from getting one). I do like the new stock, 3rd sling swivel, and hinged floorplate.

Also I want to get an adjustable parralex, mildot scope with finger adjustable knobs...I was looking at a Nikon 3.3-10x with those features for $400 at wholesalehunter.com and I have been looking at the sightron scopes with the same features. How do they compare against each other and Leupold mildot scopes? clarity, repeatability of knobs, etc.

I've handled the right hand not left hand version. I suggest you hold one before plunking down your money. Grip is too short and too fat. My little finger has no room on the grip. They've made a drastic change with this stock and for the worst in my opinion. I won't be getting one.

The caliber you are choosing is about right on for what you plan to use it for.

Whether or not the rifle fits you will be up to you.

The scope........I've always heard that you buy any rifle you want, regardless of how low the price, just put on the most quality scope you can afford. If you have to scrimp, scrimp on the rifle not the optics. For many, the scope is the crutch that makes many shooters look better than they actually are, especially on the bench.

You may be able to do just as good with a SPS and a good scope. Although I don't know what Remington offers in LH.

Thanks for the info Graybeard....I am 6foot 4" tall, but I a still a realatively skinny college student at 155 pounds, nonetheless I have longer arms to fit....which means I need a longer LOP on a rifle. So you say the stock is not long enough (I assume LOP) and the grip was to small since there was no place for your pinky. Well Maybe I should try to track down a Remington 700 VS lh in 308win if I still can...I have enough for one now.

I too feel that remington has made changes for the worse if what you say is true. I mean they got rid of the BDL left handed and another line of left handed rifles (and I like iron sights on many of my rifles).

Of course lefthanded shooters are almost victims of Mass Repression

I didn't intend to infer anything regard LOP. It is just the normal Remington Standard as best as I recall.

The grip is the problem or was for me. Otherwise I liked the rifle. BUT it has a Wunderhamer Swell on both sides of it and that makes it seriously FAT. I could barely get my fat fingers around it. And the grip is what is very short. Just no room for the pinkie digit to fit. Over all a bad move on Remington's part in my opinion.
