.45 ACP/AMT Hardballer

Laugh if you want,but I bought an AMT .45 several years ago,and it outshoots both my Kimbers,the Ed Brown,and my Wilson,not to mention the Springfield,Rock River or Charles Daily.I have no idea how many rounds have been fired in it,but it just keeps on going.I have let several people try it,all of them better shots than me and until they shoot it they don't believe me.
Does any one else out there have one or am I all alone?

I got a smokin' deal on a brand new Hardballer still in the box at a recent gun show. The owner said it wouldn't shoot. He tried sending it back to the factory, only to find they had gone out of business. I knew it couldn't be anything serious. When I got the gun home I found the rear sight had been adjusted down so far the hammer was hitting it. A few clicks up and it worked like a champ.  This AMT will hold its own on the range. Not the most accurate gun I own but respectable. It feeds anything and has yet to have its first malfunction.

I had one for a while. It would only feed roundnose "ball" ammo (I guess that's why they named it "Hardballer" I was very unreliable. after several trips to the gunsmith (Actually a few different gunsmiths) I decided to get rid of it. (I originally purchased it as a carry gun) I now carry a CZ 40 B when I can carry a full size pistol, all the way down to an NAA Guardian .32 I am actually considering buying an AMT backup .380 from a friend. I hope it changes my opinion of AMT :?

Sunndog : If you want a small backup pistol, I would advise against the .380m AMT Backup. I have had 2 of them. They eat it.

Bad design, not reliable, shoot only hardball .380, and even that not every time, no parts available. The company is so far out of business, they sold the blueprints online.

The Hardballer is the only decent pistol they made, and some of them are not.

actually...after looking at the backup .380 I decided to pass. the tooling marks were bad. it was also single action. I like double or double/single for a pocket gun. The only reason i'm staying away from a Makarov is they don't come in stainless, and with an inside the waistband or pocket holster, the finish won't hold up for me. I'm considering another NAA guardian in .380, but I already have on in .32 (Very nice for a mouse gun) and it's not enough of a step up from the .32
another one that i've been looking at is the CZ RAMI in .40 S&W that's an alloy and should hold up. I have the CZ 40B (Full Size) and think they are a great gun for the money  :grin:

Hello,
Had my AMT Hardballer for several years and it shoots great with all types of ammo.  Have had a couple of other .45s but like it the best.  I carried a AMT Backp-up in .380 as my off-duty weapon for years and had no problems with it.  It is one of the original Back-Ups.  Being stainless with the grip safety in .380 ACP made it the perfect off duty.  Mine shot 88 to 90 JHP with no problem.  The design of the newer model I did not like as it allowed lint from the pocket to get into the action.

This thing is the most unreliable, jamming 1911 I have ever fired.
Other than being stainless with Millett sights, there is not much good I can say about it. Have played with SEVERAL mags, recoil springs, etc, and the dumb thing refuses to reliably feed the first round from the mag into the chamber unless using hardball (even remington hollowpoints jam it up & these are supposed to feed in 'ball only' 45's). Have tried the 'slingshot' as well as the 'slide-lock' release into battery methods with no luck.
Any ideas
I am about ready to trade it in for a nice used Colt, Kimber, or Springfield.
