I have to replace my front sight ( bent fire sight) with a HiViz, which what wanted origanaly. Which way do you tap out the existing sight, looking down the barrel to the front sight? Also does anyone know who makes a hood front sight protector that has a open slot on top to help gather light for the fibre optics?

I believe all sights, on at least American made firearms, are drifted out from left to right (looking down the barrel), this is for front or barrel end sights and receiver sights.
My Marlin 1894 has a hood, if I wanted a window in it I would take a Dremel tool to it, easy to do.
I hope this helps. :D

You might be able to get the hood right from Marlin.  bought a 22 Marln bolt gun for my boy & it had a cutaway hood on it. I took the sights off that gun & just for giggles tried it on a 336 & it slipped right on.

The sights go out left to right & in right to left. thats lookng down with the muzzle pointed away.
