To muzzle tame or not to muzzle tame? That's the question.
« on: December 04, 2004, 06:35:29 PM »
Guys,

I am thinking about ordering a 20”carbine in 308 for my Encore, but question is to include a muzzle tamer or not.  308 doesn’t kick hard but less recoil is always better but not at the cost of excessive noise and blast!  How is the noise and blast on a short barrel 308-caliber family?  Should I go with or without, what do you think?

Thanks. :D

Mine is a 20" heavy barrel and I would not want another 2 inches of barrel out there.  It would defeat why I wanted a short barrel.  The recoil is not bad at all.  Of course that is relative.

I have a muzzle brake on 2 of my guns(not TC's) and they are so loud. I'd tolerate the extra kick, unless you plan on using ear protection everytime.

Muzzle Tamers are some of the poorest muzzle brake designs available. I did not order one on either of my Fox Ridge barrels and the fact that they are mandatory for a couple of the other calibers I want has kept me from ordering those. I have a 20" heavy taper 350 Rem Mag and will gladly put up with a little extra shoulder punch. Sean

Skip the muzzel brake and get a Sims Limbsaver pad.  Cheaper and probably makes shooting your gun easier than ANY muzzel brake could.

New Hampshire,

That sounds like a great idea specially since once its is installed it will work with all the barrels.  But sounds like it needs to be custom installed.  Maybe?  What is a good source to buy it from?

hobbyist you are gonna love this.  Go to the Midway USA website and run a search for the Limbsaver.  You will find that they make pre-fit pads for the Encore.......that is of course you really WANT to get a grind fit one.  No?  Diddnt think so   .  The pre fits only cost about 25 bucks, but its the best 25 youll ever spend.
