today my brother got to his stand and he thought a coyote was stalking him crawling with teeth out right at him he finally moved and it went away, 5 min later it came back he pushed it off again at 12 feet away !!!
he kept saying it was 140 lbs, later he got online and swears that it was a wolf!!! he is going to contact the dec this week! has anyone seen anything this big?

utica: No, I haven't but there were two full sized Gray Canadian Wolves killed earlier this year near Glens Falls. It appears they may be migrating down into this (NYS) area. It has been said that the reason our Eastern Coyotes are so big is because of intermingling between the coyote and the Gray Wolf. Your brother could easily have seen a wolf. Mikey.

I know you don't want to give your sweet spot away, but can you give us a general idea where your brother was hunting at the time he was challenged by the wolf?

I saw my first 2 wolves this year in northern Franklin county near Loon Lake; They were chasing deer. No doubt some are making their way from Canada, but I also suspect they are secretly & illegally being released by activists. They have also been spotted by friends of mine in high peaks area.

I believe they are secretly and illegally being released by the DEC. They have in the past claimed that our coyotes are so large because they are mixed with dogs. Well then why don't they show the characteristics of most mutts, like vastly differant sizes, colors, and markings? No, they are mixed-bred with wolves, and now we are seeing larger and purer strains.
