Somebody Stop Me!!!!
« on: December 03, 2004, 03:25:38 PM »
Good People: Since the subject of Handi ownership as an addiction has been brought up, I freely admit it, I have a problem. It started with a 30/30 with an additional .223 barrel moved onto a 12ga. Tracker II to an Ultra in .223, then a .243, .280, BC barrel combo, a .50 Huntsman, and of coarse Grubby my .270 Handi I picked up at Jay's sporting goods. Yes it has gone as far as naming some of them. Out of all the Handi barrels I've got, the only one I don't like is the .280, the extra length makes it well un'Handi, it shoots good and all, but... I might entertain some kind of trade. Along the way I traded off my 30/30 .223 combo and sold my Tracker II.  I replaced my Tracker with Ol'blue, one that someone had spray painted sky blue in some attempt at camouflage, it all stripped off easily. But the 30/30 I've never replaced, used to be that you'd fall over several at any gunshow. Here's the problem I really like 30/30 as a knock around caliber, at a local pawnshop there's a Steven 340 bolt in it. I've even got a Weaver side mount that will fit it. Should I jump or not, it's just not a Handi!! Gosh I Feel Better Already:  :)  <>< Duce:

 Just live with it :-D  :-D  :-D  :-D
The 340 is a pretty good gun but it isn't a Handi, we all have to have our
 Handi"s  :D   Marv.

I went and looked up the savage 340 as I couldn't seem to remember what one looked like...lo and behold I got my dads old Springfield in 222 that is a spittin image...while not a real looker this lil gun shot really (still does but haven't shot it in a while) well and has killed alot of deer. It also has the side mount scope rail on it too and has a 4 power Weaver on it. It was kinda retired when he got a WesternField (Marlin) lever 30-30 which  is a tank of a rifle!(Nice wood on that 30-30 too!) Bet that 340 will be a shooter!! Let us know! 8) (P.S. you can shoot pointy bullets in it also...hopefully

Those old 340's in 30-30 are great guns, buy it!!!....<><....

I guess I'm no help.........but even though my mind is reeling on what to offer you in trade you for that full length .280 barrel to go along with my short .280 barrel (how about a swap if you want a "Handi" .280?, PM me and we can talk) I have been looking for a long time for a 30-30 barrel, but if I came across a good 30-30 340 at a reasonable price it would most likely have a new home!!!

I started my deer hunting career way back in '61 with a Stevens bolt action 30-30.  Matter of fact my first buck (and my largest) was taken with that gun. When I start my second childhood, any day now, that would be a nice rifle to have.
