Hello there, did I hear my name mentioned.  Yep, am still looking for the lugs.  Haven't got back with my 'smith yet though.  Is this damaged barrel for sale?  If so, could you PM me or whatever.  Don't know where I stand in line on this.  Got so many crazy ideas for this winter.....Now am thinking of a pistol of some kind in 6mmBR.  I know there was talk recently about converting a handi rifle to pistol or maybe the other way.  I searched but could not find the posting. I can't see any problem going pistol to rifle, know there are problems going rifle to pistol.  Don't you think NEF should make a single shot pistol on the SB2 frame?  How hard could it be to make a pistol stock to fit the handi frame, cut a barrel down, etc.  Have even been looking at the Savage Striker pistols, but dang, them things cost a bunchabucks.  Looked at a T/C pistol today in 223 at the pawn shop.  It is not out yet, but  is getting close to being owned by the shop.  Sure looked neat.  Now wouldn't a handi stocked that way be neat.  Take a cheap 22 Hornet and convert it to a pistol.  Could even rechamber it to something really wildcat.  Those who know the rules on this chime in.

Donaldo, all sorts of federal laws being broken by making a pistol from a rifle. It's probably best not even to post about it. You never know when "Big Brother is watching. There were some posts at length about pistol to rifle and the other way around as wel as reason it cannot be done. Go to the ATF website and you can check.  Others here have much more info on it, chapter and section of pertinent federal laws and all, perhaps they will help out....<><....

Whilke your doing research on the computer look up the old H&R auto- burgular gun. Probably something lioke you had in mind, until you found out it was illegal of course, and we all know what illegal is right? Of course we do, an illegal is a sick bird....<><.... :-D

yes a factorypistol ike the contenderby H&R (rossi had the   idea and made VERFY few pistols and they looked like a contender but broke down like a regular H&R) Rossi made a couple then the idea got threw out. I never even seen them for sale. but a contender like pistol but about 1/2 the cost would be really nice

I am checking into having an SB2 converted into a pistol. I checked with a smith that has an FFL that does Law Enforcement Conversions for auto fire and shortened shotguns. He said he would double check with the ATF Agent that oversees' his conversions to check out the legalities. He stated that he thought it could be done for a $5 Federal Stamp to convert and register the firearm with the ATF. Just like a sawed off shotgun is not illegal if it has the ATF Stamp and is registered with them. Will let you know what I find out.

My neighbor, with the FFL, has a mossberg 500 with a pistol grip and a 6" barrel. Gun cost $500 + $5 Federal stamp. Menacing looking gun. I haven't shot it, yet, but I bet she'll rock you good!

Keep us up to date on this SB2 conversion to pistol.  I am very much interested but want to stay legal.  You might start a new thread when you find out.

A $5 AOW(Any Other Weapon) stamp will work.  If you have a clean record, you're almost guaranteed to get one in a few weeks after applying if you so wish to make such a weapon.  We've got a couple in the family, paperwork is easy.  Just fill out a form, get a $5 money order, and send copies to the places they state.  Just be sure your state allows such items before applying though.

It always raises an eyebrow or two when you talk about sawing off shotgun barrels, cutting a rifle back to pistol and machine guns. None are illegal, if you do the proper paperwork, pay for the Federal Stamp and have a smith with a manufacturers FFL do the work. My neighbor has the License and machinary to do the work, just waiting for approval on the modification from his ATF Agent.

Will keep you updated on what it takes to do it legally.

Does it have to be done by a smith with a manufacturers FFL or can someone do their own? I suppose most that do custom work have this type of license?

I guess all they would really need to do is cut the barrel and recrown. The grip should be easy enough to make. No reason you couldn't leave the forend nearly full length.

A single shot .44 would be pretty neat and legal for deer hunting in some slug states.
Hmmm....Makes the mind go wild.

You absolutely, positively CANNOT do this yourself. A manufacturers License is required along with the proper Federal paperwork and Tax stamps. You are actually creating a new firearm by altering its configuration. That is why you need a manufacturers license. It must be registered with the Feds.
