.357 Max
« on: December 02, 2004, 02:00:13 PM »
Any one using a .357 Max for deer hunting in a rifle length barrel?  if so what bullet and what is the effective range of this caliber?  I have a 10 inch contender barrel and am considering a 18 inch as a carbine.

Steve,
My dad uses a Lone Eagle pistol chambered for 357 Max, I'm not sure on barrel length, but he is confident with it out to 150 yards on Deer.  The 150 Yard limit is more of a self imposed limit based on his shooting ability than it is on bullet energy and trajectory.  He does hand load his own ammo though since the 357 Max is harder to find factory ammo for.

Thanks for the input.  I've heard that this cartridge will reach out there.  i know that my 10 inch tube is very acurate.  I want to get a carbine.rifle barrel for the woods of Maine that i could use if i had to reach.
