Now that's really straddlin' the centuries ain't it.  A muzzleloading weapon with an electronic sight.  Well done and thanks for the pic.

Cool, now tell me more.  Is this a blackpowder cartridge gun or a muzzleloader legal in muzzleloader season. Excuse my ignorance  please :D  I'd love to extend my deer hunting season here in Texas but would like to do it with a  muzzleloading handgun instead of rifle.  And a sighting system other than iron sights would be my choice.  Hell gettin' old  ....Van

After looking at pic again I do see that it's a muzzle loader (ramrod)

He used 55 grains of ffg with a 180 grain ball that I cast. He shot her at 35 yds. She ran 30 yards and laid down. He thought she was dead but she ran when he stood up. She went 15 yds then doubled back 10 yards and fell over dead.

that is one heck of a hole for a light load and a round ball.
what did the ball do to her inside? The 300 gr barnes using 100 grs of pyrodex rs lquified a nice buck's heart and lungs at 10 feet.
what was the ball cast with?

I used old window weights to cast the ball.  It took out one lung, the liver and scrambled the stomach.  It seems to have went through her in an arc.  We chronoed the load at 1520 avg. velocity.

I have been using a 14 inch contender 209x50
with a load of90 grs of pyrodex p and hornady 240 gr xtp mag bullets.
I ahve only recovered one deer with this load andit was a neck shot at about 10 yards.
I have shot quite a few does with the same load at ranges from a few feet to over 200 yards. I know for sure I clean missed some of them others I am 100 % sure I hit them but none of them left any blood trails or any other signs to follow.

how was the blood trail for his doe?

The blood trail was just drops then in a few places silver dollar sized pools. The guts were really a mess.  She should have left a better blood trail.

Way to go & Congrat's 8)
Utilizing the full diameter of the bore with that big .490 lead ball is definatley the way to do it. Good expansion and two holes every time.
My state wont allow the blk-pdr handgun but I had taken 18 deer with the .50 rifle and have no bad storys to tell.

Doing it with a muzzle loader, WOW. That's what I call doing it the hard way. Tell him congratulations.
