leftoverdj please tell me about those LBT style bullets

leftoverdj whats the deal with the bullets for the 357 family?the 180 LBT bullets?are those the   cast bullets you make?i would like to here some more about them.would they be a good one for a Contender pistol?

Hey Jeff you really need to get DJ to send you some of those LBTs I would send you some but my casting is not on par with his. I have the same mold as he dose thou and they are the cats meow in my max.
With a scope it a 1 MOA rifle easy, with peeps I can get 1.5 or a little better on a good day. they shoot very well out of my GP100 also.
I dropped my first deer useing this type of bullet out of the max.

Yes and yes they where from the group buy at LEE GC LBTs, I have been useing 21gr of H4227 pushing about 1950 to 2000 outta my max just about knocked that doe off her feet H110 W296 and 1680 all seem to work about the same. I like them better than  the 180gr XTPs and they work well also.

Bob are you having any leading trouble with the cast bullets so far?do you think the molds are still avilable?the Contender has a nice deep rifleing in the bore and those cast bullets might hook up real good.

i know nothing about cast bullets so this is all new to me.

i did look into the 180gr Hornady single shot pistol bullets.they tell me these are great bullets for deer hunting.im going to try some of them and i am really thinking about some cast bullets too

Jeff, LBT is a sponsor here on Graybeards and also has a forum here.  Veral will make the mold for you for sure!

I have one of his WLFN .44 molds in a 320 grain that is a good shooting bullet.  Never used it on game and no longer have a .44 but any of his molds with a flat meplat design will take game nicely.

I have a four cavity mould from him to make them in 200 grain weight and likely will have him make me one for 180s next.

Nothing out of the ordinary with leading very mild accually thease are hard cast bullets with good lube they work great, I have used alot of Verals LBTs and they work well. You can get them from Midway if you would like to try some before you buy a mold. I don't know if you can get the mold from Lee or not we did a group buy and had them special made, I'm sure if you get DJ to chime in here he'll give you more info on that.

Officially these are Lee C358-180-RF.  They look a lot like LBTs, but they are not a copy of anything. It's just that anyone designing a 180 grain GC bullet with a big meplat so they will work through lever carbines is gonna come up with pretty much the same design.

Lar45 honchoed the project and the moulds are long gone. He's working with MidSouth to have them offered as a two cavity special order mould.

I waterquench as I cast, lube and GC in a .360 sizer and get no leading up to 2000 fps. My current load is 18-19 grains of WC 820.  WC 680 and H-110 work as well but use more powder.

My accuracy is not quite as good as Bob's but it's a lot better than I was expecting, certainly better than anyone is gonna really need out of pistols and pistol caliber carbines.

The interesting part is that everyone reporting back is getting the same results and this bullet is being shot through a lot of different guns.
